Dawson City Museum Annual Auction

The annual fall Auction is a highlight of the Dawson City Museum Calendar.  The 2011 Auction will be the 34th edition of this fantastic tradition.  The Auction offers visitors a chance to bid on a wide array of items donated from the community, including everything from hotel rooms and meals to loads of wood and freight deliveries to hand-made crafts and works of art.  It truly is a great opportunity to come out and see the community and come home with something nice.

This event is really so much more than just an auction.  Visitors during the Auction have the opportunity to enjoy a musical guest in the Museum lobby, an array of food and drinks, and access to the Museum galleries.  There are also plenty of surprises.  2010 saw the debut of a brand new Murder Mystery during the Auction, and there are plans in the works for a new and exciting bit of entertainment for the event in 2011.

The Auction takes place on the first Saturday in November each year.  Stay tuned for more details about the 2011 Auction as we get closer to the date.

Christmas Open House

On the first Friday of December each year, the Dawson City Museum wastes no time getting into the Christmas spirit with its annual Christmas Open House.  The whole community of Dawson is welcome to come out and enjoy a great party atmosphere with food and Christmas carols in the Museum lobby, classic films in the museum theatre, access to the Museum galleries, and fun crafts and games for the youngsters upstairs in the courtroom.

Of course, the real highlight of this event is the extremely popular 12 Side Dishes of Christmas.  The 12 Side Dishes are each prepared by members of the community.  While the dishes themselves vary from year to year, you can always count on having delicious and creative takes on holiday favourites to go along with a specially-prepared Christmas turkey.

Check back in the fall for more details about the date and time (and the menu!).

Dawson City Museum Cinema

In 2010, the Dawson City Museum began offering biweekly screenings of popular films in our theatre.   Dawson is a town without a movie theatre, and these regular screenings, complete with popcorn and movie snacks, are pretty popular among those folks who aren’t prepared to wait for DVD.

The DCM Cinema is currently on hiatus for the summer season, but movies will be back up and running again beginning in the fall.  Upcoming movies will always be announced on Facebook, so if you’re interested in what’s coming up next, consider checking out the Dawson City Museum Facebook page.

Canada Day Celebrations

Every year, the Dawson City Museum is a major player in Dawson’s Canada Day celebrations.  The Museum is the place to be on Canada Day, when we play host to a range of events including a flag raising ceremony, country picnic, live music and fun games and face painting for the kids.

Come on down for an event filled with great fun, great food, and great patriotism on July 1st!  More details about this year’s event will be available as we get closer to the date, so be sure to check back for more information.
